Februar 2015 setzte Karl Egloff eine neue Rekordzeit f\u00fcr den Aufstieg auf den h\u00f6chsten Berg der westlichen Halbkugel mit nur 11 Stunden 52 Minuten. Auf der Gesamtstrecke von 50 Meilen (ca. 80 Km) war er damit um fast eine Stunde schneller als der bekannteste \u201eBergl\u00e4ufer\u201c Kilian Jornet, der nur zwei Monate vorher einen Rekord aufgestellt hatte.<\/p>\n<h2>Wer ist der Typ der Kilian Jornet\u2018s Rekordzeit weggeschnappt hat?<\/h2>\n<p>Der 33 Jahre alte Karl Egloff ist ein Bergf\u00fchrer aus Quito, Ecuador. Sein Vater Charly war ein schweizer Bergf\u00fchrer der Karls Mutter, eine Ecuadorianerin, in der Schweiz kennengelernt hatte. Das Paar w\u00e4hlte Ecuador als Heimat um die Anden zu erforschen. Charly nahm seinen Sohn Karl schon in fr\u00fchen Jahren auf seine Klettertouren mit und als Karl 15 war, hatte er schon einige Hundert mal 5.000er und 6.000er bestiegen.<\/p>\n<p>Egloff wollte als Teenager Profi Fu\u00dfballer werden. Mit 17 zog er in die Schweiz zur\u00fcck um dort die Mittelschule zu beenden. Zwischen Heerdienst und der Uni trainierte er um Fu\u00dfballer zu werden. Nach Beendigung seines Wirtschaftsstudiums kehrte er wieder nach Ecuador zur\u00fcck um sein Bergf\u00fchrer Gesch\u00e4ft <a title=\"Homepage Cumbre Tours\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cumbretours.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Cumbre Tours<\/a> zu er\u00f6ffnen.<\/p>\n<p>Eine Verletzung und sein nicht mehr so junges Alter erl\u00f6schten seinen Traum vom Fussballer und so begann er mit dem Mountainbiking, zuerst als Hobby und sp\u00e4ter nahm er sogar als Profi Rennfahrer in Ecuadors Natinalteam an Weltcup Rennen teil. Durch seinen sp\u00e4ten Einstieg in das MTB Racing hatte er aber ein Handicap auf der technischen Seite, was ihn daran hinderte bei internationalen Wettk\u00e4mpfen erfolgreich zu sein.<\/p>\n<p>Vor drei Jahren, als Egloff 30 war, konzentrierte es sich auf Bergtouren und H\u00f6hentraining. Als die ecuadorianischen Bergf\u00fchrer merkten wie schnell Egloff bei den Aufstiegen war, munterten sie ihn auf Geschwindigkeitsrekorde anzustreben. Zu der Zeit kannte er Kilian Jornet noch nicht, \u00fcber den bereits Dokumentarfilme gedreht worden waren und den in mehreren Fachzeitschriften berichtet wurde.<\/p>\n<p>Egloff wurde in das <a title=\"Homepage Mammut\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mammut.ch\/athletes_proteam\" target=\"_blank\">Mammut International Athlete Team<\/a> aufgenommen und obwohl er weiterhin als Bergf\u00fchrer arbeitet, ist seither sein Hauptziel Geschwindigkeitsrekorde f\u00fcr den Aufstieg auf die sieben h\u00f6chsten Berge der sieben Kontinente aufzustellen (die sogenannten \u201cSeven Summits\u201d).<\/p>\n<p>Es ist vielleicht ein verd\u00e4chtiger Zufall, dass Egloffs Rekordziele ziemlich mit denen von Kilian Jornet \u00fcbereinstimmen und das er vielleicht in Kilians Fu\u00dfstapfen treten m\u00f6chte.
